Access Scaffolding for Butterfly Conservatory Environment
Project Details
Client: GGS Greenhouse Structures
Location: Niagara, Ontario
Built in 1996, Niagara’s Butterfly Conservatory remains the largest facility of its kind in North America.
To support critical maintenance activities, the Barclay crews fast-tracked a scaffolding project during a one-week shutdown, which required design, supply, and installation of access scaffolding within a highly sensitive, climate-controlled environment. Our teams were both efficient in execution, thoughtful in the customized scaffolding approach, and considerate in preserving the integrity of the space.
Innovation & Creativity
To accommodate the Conservatory’s unique environment, our team implemented a customized scaffolding approach that minimized impact to delicate interior conditions, including vegetation and structural elements. The scaffold design allowed for safe, efficient access while preserving the integrity of the space.
Use of Scaffold & Access Equipment
We deployed a combination of modular scaffold systems and adaptable access solutions to navigate confined and irregular spaces within the facility. This ensured optimal reach and flexibility while maintaining a minimal footprint in operational areas.
Health & Safety Performance
Safety was paramount given the environmental sensitivity and restricted access conditions. Our team adhered to strict safety protocols, maintaining full compliance with site-specific requirements and ensuring zero incidents throughout the project.
Project Complexity
The project presented multiple complexities, including limited working space, environmental sensitivities, and a non-extendable shutdown period. Close coordination with the client and other trades was required to sequence work efficiently within the compressed timeline.
Schedule & Budget Performance
Barclay completed the project on schedule within the one-week shutdown window, enabling the client to proceed with maintenance activities without delay. The work was delivered on budget, demonstrating effective planning, resource allocation, and execution.
