Operations Manager, Southern Ontario (Hamilton)

The Operations Manager leads and manages all phases of construction projects from pre-construction to completion ensuring effective planning and supervision of construction projects providing strategic plans and insight while being metrics oriented at the operational level.  This role provides oversight and accountability, keeping various projects and Project Managers on track, on schedule for completion, and on budget for cost.  In addition, this position will enhance and grow our contractor and subcontractor alliances, improving quality, consistency and accountability.

 

This position is based out of our Northern Ontario office located in Sudbury, Ontario.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Providing top notch service to clients, suppliers and other stakeholders by responding professionally and with a sense of urgency
  • Being an ambassador of the company both internally and externally
  • Maintaining excellent relationships with owner, architect, consultants, subcontractors, public
  • Ensuring projects meet corporate goals for safety, quality, budget, schedule and profitability
  • Assisting in securing new work by participating in estimates, working with subcontractors and/or participating in proposals and presentations
  • Ensuring project safety standards and environmental programs are always adhered to
  • Reviewing all cost reports and forecasts; looking for early warning signs of trouble, and developing plans to mitigate risks
  • Assisting in completion of long-range (year-end) planning
  • Assisting in compiling information for monthly operations report
  • Promoting and supporting project safety
  • Promoting and supporting quality assurance standards and process
  • Liaising with owner, clients, consultants (includes compiling client and subcontractor survey results)
  • Participating in project proposal teams / marketing, where applicable
  • Prepares correspondence, reports, forms, and specialized documents; proofreads materials for accuracy, completeness, compliance, formatting, and correct English usage, including grammar, punctuation and spelling
  • Assigning field and project staff to projects; involved in recruiting, hiring, transferring, termination and performance evaluation of operations staff
  • Leadership, mentoring, promotion of training and professional development
  • Assisting in compiling major claims
  • Resolving issues with owners / other agencies
  • Assigning resources to project to optimize utilization
  • Perform other relevant duties as assigned to meet business unit and organizational objectives

Educational & Professional Requirements:

  • Post-secondary diploma/degree in Construction, Building Technology or Engineering
  • At least 10 years construction industry experience in a management level position
  • 10 years of proven experience in project management from project pursuit to project close-out, overseeing commercial construction projects (hard bid, AFP and/or negotiated)
  • Technical Diploma, Professional Engineer, C.E.T. Gold Seal Constructor or PMP
  • Ability to read blueprints, schematics, field drawings and plans.
  • A solid understanding of all construction trades and construction techniques.
  • Knowledge of local, provincial and federal workplace compliance regulations, ordinances and legislation, including OH&S regulations and Building Codes
  • Demonstrated ability to exercise necessary cost control measures.
  • Familiarity with Labor relations and collective agreement management.
  • Familiarity with project accounting systems, Viewpoint an asset.
  • First Aid skills and/or certificates are considered assets
  • Possess a valid drivers’ license.
