This role reports to the VP, Operations and provides overall administrative direction for one large or several smaller projects.  Responsible for overall project performance including costs, schedule, quality and project status.  Oversees Project Coordinators and collaborate with the Project Superintendents in achieving project success.  Maintains an excellent relationship with sub-trades and clients.

This position is based out of Southern Ontario.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Be an ambassador of the Company both internally and externally
  • Mentor, coach, supervise junior project managers and other members of the project team(s)
  • Ensure projects are constructed in accordance with design, budget and schedule.
  • Develop, recommend and implement the project plan and schedule.
  • Establish and maintain strong and effective relationships with owner, architect, consultants, subcontractors, building authorities, regulatory agencies and public
  • Setting up project reporting procedures (cost reports – labour and material, site office procedures, document drawing control)
  • Providing performance status reports regarding cost forecast, schedule and safety
  • Understanding and enforcing contractual responsibilities, contract documents and resolving disputes
  • Review and negotiate subcontracts and major purchase orders; monitor their progress, schedule and conducting subcontract buyout
  • Identify required and optional changes in project scope; negotiate change orders with the owner including processing and assessing cost and schedule impact
  • Preparing / verifying of progress payments to owner and subcontractors, and monitoring progress
  • Meeting manager/chair of project meetings
  • Involved in all facets of project close-out, including archiving of documents, maintenance and warranty manuals, deficiencies and warranty work
  • Developing and ensuring compliance with quality control plan and establishing site action teams as necessary
  • Monitor and control progress, costs and budgets throughout the project ensuring project profitability
  • Act to resolve disputes between the Company and owner/subcontractors when possible prior to escalating; manage claims and claims avoidance
  • Be responsible to ensure the Company’s safety program is being followed at a project level
  • Liaising with building authorities and regulatory agencies as required.
  • Perform other duties as assigned to meet business unit and corporate objectives
  • Effective verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills
  • Detailed understanding of all aspects of construction: technology, equipment, materials, bid management, claims management and safety
  • Knowledge of different construction methods, sequencing, problem solving and timelines
  • Ability to understand and employ engineering/construction plans/specifications, methods and procedures
  • Ability to establish and maintain strong working relationship with owners, clients, other managers, designers, supervisors, subtrades and trades people
  • Ability to be flexible and work in a fast-paced environment
  • Ability to effectively and creatively solve problems related to construction, sequencing and staffing
  • Ability to travel to project sites and off-site locations throughout Ontario as required.

 

EDUCATIONAL AND PROFESSIONAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Post-secondary diploma or degree in a related engineering or construction management discipline
  • Minimum of 5 years of proven experience in project management from project pursuit to project close-out, overseeing commercial construction projects (hard bid, AFP and/or negotiated)
  • Previous management experience within a mid – large general contractor; experience in a unionized environment an asset
  • Eng and/or LEED certifications an asset
  • Ability to read blueprints, schematics, field drawings and plans.
  • A solid understanding of all construction trades and construction techniques.
  • Knowledge of local, provincial and federal workplace compliance regulations, ordinances and legislation, including OH&S regulations and Building Codes
  • Demonstrated ability to exercise necessary cost control measures.
  • Familiarity with Labor relations and collective agreement management.
  • Familiarity with project accounting systems, Viewpoint an asset.
  • A valid class G Driver’s license and access to a vehicle is required

Salary Range: $80,000 – $135,000 annually.
